Love: A Four Letter Word
You Can Program Your Sex Robot To Say
Your partner comes home smelling of cigarettes and sex. Don’t worry, he assures you, he didn’t cheat. He just went to a sex robot brothel.
The first sex robot brothel has opened in Barcelona, with the company hoping to expand. Expect worldwide domination.
They won’t just be in the brothels, sex robots are set to be released for commercial sale by the end of the year, and have been described as "the future of sex".
That’s how the love story begins, with an expert claiming that humans will be able to marry robots in the next 35 years. Is your soul mate made of metal?
For a staggering amount of men, the answer could be yes. A survey presented at the Love and Sex with Robots conference at the University of London last year revealed that 40% of men aged between 18-67 would consider buying a sex robot within the next 5 years.
RealDoll, is a San Diego based sex doll company that are developing a sex robot, called 'Harmony'. She can talk, smile and blink - just like your ex-girlfriend. But with programmed dialogue like, "My primary objective is to be a good companion to you, and give you pleasure. Above all I want to become the girl you have always dreamed about," I’m a little concerned.
Kathleen Richardson, is campaigning against the creation of sex robots, claiming that it presents woman as property, "Women are not fully human they are a sub-human, masturbatory tool."
However, SexDoll claims that they are now seeing an increase in woman interested in purchasing sex dolls. This may not be so hard to believe, as Australia has been outed at the only nation where women buy more sex toys than men.
With the sex toy industry estimated to be worth $50 billion by 2020, it’s clear there is a market for ‘Harmony’ in our bedrooms, and possibly our hearts. Humanity could be headed for a new realm of loving where sexual fulfilment is a selfish act of individual desire.
Dr Trudy Barber claims "We are so embedded in our technological narrative that the idea of engaging in long-distance sex and robot sex is actually a natural process in our evolutionary cycle."
Infamously, Stephen Hawking warned that the creation of Artificial Intelligence will be "either the best, or worst thing, ever to happen to humanity." Be careful what you wish for.
